Brainblast 2021: Burn Bright

Every year, without fail, since 2018, Brain Blast has been held to showcase the research projects of PSHS-MC's graduating batch. This year is no exception.

Brain Blast 2021: Burn Bright, Batch 2021's research symposium, aims to inspire the Pisay community, by kindling the desire of the younger batches to pursue their fields of interest. With the pandemic forcing every student into online learning, it hasn't been an easy feat to execute the 89 unique projects of our batch. Our goal is to showcase all the hard work and efforts of our fellow researchers. By doing so, we hope to ignite the spark—encouraging new generations of creativity and innovation.

Each project is a testimony to the persevering minds of PSHS-MC Batch 2021—brilliant and bright, regardless of whatever obstacles blaze ahead.

Book of Abstracts

The Book of Abstracts is the culmination of abstracts from each Research project in Philippine Science High School Main Campus Batch 2021. Three members of the Brainblast Design Committee worked on designing and layoutting the abstracts for this book, namely Chen Thor and Nicole Ngabit.

Finishing this particular book took several weeks. This difficulty was mainly due to late submissions provided by certain research groups across the batch. Apart from that, several revisions were made in updating the format according to the Research Unit's desires.

Final Specifications:

Size: 8" x 8"

Pages: Full Color Glossy Paper

Cover: Full Matte Laminated Covers

Binding: Hardbound

Establishing the Brainblast 2021 Identity

We at the Brainblast Design Committee took up to 1 week to finalize the theme and aesthetic of the Brainblast event. We decided to go through with a "Burn Bright" concept, since it encompasses a flame in the middle of darkness that most research groups are experiencing during these trying times.

To visualize this theme, we went for a warm color palette, focused on warm solar oranges to symbolize the fire burning inside Pisay students. The use of dark blue as a background color represents the dark times we are currently going through along with undertaking a research project. The complimentary synergy of orange and dark blue result in a fiery take of colors that fully encompass the Burn Bright theme.

The final moodboard for Brainblast was derived from an early draft that I made along with integrating the wave elements from fellow Design Committee member Nicole Ngabit's moodboard.

Website Banners

We at the Brainblast committee decided to use a Website in order for lower year students to have a more accessible and secure platform for accessing the event schedules and announcements. These banners were made for each subject section of the website, making it easy for the student to navigate and identify a certain subject.

The selected colors for each subject were based on several group discussions on certain subject and color assignments. We want to establish a certain identity for each subject area so that students won't stumble across a different subject for the event.

Promotional Pubmats for Facebook

With everyone getting most of their information in the Pisay Direct Facebook page, the Pubmats have to be optimized for Facebook Posts. Since we plan on sharing 2 Pubmats each day, is the aspect ratios of these Pubmats must be easy and accommodating for the Facebook platform, hence the 1x2 Aspect Ratio.

DP Overlay

The DP Overlay uses the design elements from the initial moodboard and into a Facebook friendly format, one that emphasizes readability and identity across devices. The Fiery Orange-blue gradient appears on the lower half of the Overlay, aiding in readability for the Brainblast event details that are in the overlay.
